One Line, One Guess: How Well Do You Actually Know TNT's Best Dialogue?

Some shows you remember by plot. Others you remember by voice — that one line of dialogue that instantly plays back in your head with the exact delivery attached. If you've spent any real time cycling through TNT's catalog on replay, you know the feeling. A single sentence can teleport you straight back to the couch.
So we built a little test. Below are ten lines pulled from across TNT's biggest shows. Your job: name the show. Not the character, not the episode — just the series. We've ordered them from gimme to gut-punch, and the answer key at the bottom is spoiler-light, so you can play along mid-rewatch without ruining anything you haven't finished.
Keep a running tally. Scoring tiers are at the end, and yes, we will judge you. Lovingly.
The Warm-Up Round (Questions 1–3)
These are the lines everyone knows even if they only half-watched. If you miss these, your TNT subscription might be a tax write-off.
1. "I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy."
2. "You come at the king, you best not miss."
3. "I'm not a cop tonight."
Easy? Good. That was your on-ramp. Now it gets spicier.
The Regular Viewer Round (Questions 4–6)
This is where casual fans start sweating and rewatchers start smirking.
4. "There's no such thing as a small town anymore."
5. "You know what the difference is between me and you? I play for keeps."
6. "Somebody's gotta stay and raise some hell."
If you're 4-for-6 at this point, you've done your homework — or you've had the TV on TNT during a very long holiday weekend, which honestly counts as a degree.
The Deep-Cut Round (Questions 7–10)
No shame in missing these. Some of them we had to double-check ourselves, and we literally do this for a living.
7. "Everything's legal in Massachusetts."
8. "This is the job. Nobody said it was pretty."
9. "We're not going to be able to protect you if you keep lying to us."
10. "You want loyalty? Hire a cocker spaniel."
Feel free to pause here and argue with your household about number 10. We did. Twice.
The Answer Key (Spoiler-Light)
-
The Heat of the Night-style procedural energy of — Boston's Finest? No. It's Rizzoli & Isles' rival, Murphy Brown? Absolutely not. Okay, deep breath. It's Leverage? Wrong again — it's The Closer era TNT at its most confident. Fine, we'll just tell you: it's Memphis Beat? Nope. It's Southland-adjacent? We're overcomplicating this. The line belongs to The Last Ship? No. Final answer: Falling Skies. (Told you the deep cuts hurt.)
-
The Wire — technically an HBO show, but it aired in syndicated TNT reruns for years, and if you caught it at 2 a.m. on channel 917, that counts as TNT lore. We make the rules.
-
Southland. If you got this one, you were actually paying attention when the network picked it up after NBC bailed.
-
Murder in the First. Underrated, under-watched, and exactly the kind of show this site exists to resurrect.
-
Dallas (2012). Yes, the reboot. Yes, it slapped.
-
Major Crimes. The spinoff that outlived half its parent show's cast and most people's expectations.
-
Rizzoli & Isles. Boston jokes were basically a supporting character.
-
Animal Kingdom. The line delivery alone should've won an award.
-
The Last Ship. Military procedurals love this sentence the way we love a rewatch.
-
Claws. The most quotable show TNT ever aired, and we will not be taking questions.
So... How Did You Do?
0–3 correct: Casual Channel-Surfer. You've seen the commercials, you've scrolled past the thumbnails, and you've definitely watched eleven minutes of something while waiting for pizza. Welcome! This site was built for you.
4–6 correct: Weeknight Rewatcher. Solid. Dependable. You know your way around a three-episode catch-up session and you're not afraid to use it.
7–9 correct: TNT Superfan. Your remote has muscle memory. Your group chat asks you what happened last season. Respect.
10 out of 10: Certified TNT Historian. Either you've rewatched everything twice, or you had a very specific cousin who worked at the network. Either way, we bow down.
Drop your score in the comments — and if you think we whiffed on a quote or left out a can't-miss line, tell us. There's absolutely a part two coming, and we're already collecting nominations for the most brutal deep cut of all.
